Care

  • Wash your nappies a few times prior to use to increase the absorbency of the towelling. NB. Bamboozles need 10 washes to get them to full absorbency but if you really can’t wait, you can use them after a couple of washes.
  • No need to soak your nappies prior to washing. Modern powders will get them clean anyway.
  • Wash your nappies/covers at 40 or 60 depending on the wash care label in non-bio (2 tablespoons is enough to get your nappies clean) – use a laundry mesh for added convenience.
  • Don’t use fabric softeners as this leaves a residue and decreases the absorbency of the towelling.
  • Don’t use bleach or other harsh stain removers, as they will shorten the lifespan of your nappies and will void your guarantee.
  • You can tumble dry the nappies on a cool setting if needed but we recommend line drying wherever possible.
  • Bicarbonate of soda and any acid (ie. Vinegar) when heated in solution corrodes cotton and bamboo fibres. Whilst a lot of sites etc. recommend using them to sanitise and soften nappies they will drastically shorten their lifespan.
  • We recommend using non biological powders as they are better for both baby and the environment. There is also an enzyme present in some bio detergents called cellulase which is corrosive to bamboo fibre and cotton.
  • Barrier creams such as Sudocrem can coat the fibres in your nappy reducing their absorbency. When using a barrier cream you must always use a liner.
  • As the UAE has hard water it is recommended to use either Bamboo fibre or Fluffle

Textiles

Because we love textiles almost as much as we love babies, all of the fabrics used in our nappies are covered by Oeko-tex 100 certification. This is your guarantee that no harmful chemicals have been used in the production process.

We make our nappies from several fabrics here at Tots each with its own unique properties. Read on if you want a bit more information on the fabrics:

Cotton - The all round performer

A naturally occuring cellulose fibre cotton has been used for centuries. It makes excellent terry towelling due to its absorbent nature. Cellulose is a carbohydrate, which provides negatively charged groups on its surface edge, which attract the positively charged water molecules. Terry works by giving a far greater surface area for these water molecules to be atrracted to.

Bamboo fibre - Slim fit and silky soft

One of a new breed of 'green' man made cellulose fibres. Similar to classic viscose, the cross section of bamboo fibre is covered in tiny micro holes giving superior absorbtion and breathability to cotton. It is also incredibly soft with a feeling akin to cashmere/silk. Bamboo is a highly sustainable resource, which grows without the need for agrochemicals and has a very short growth cycle. The processing is done within strict environmental guidelines according to ISO 9000 & 14000.

Microfibre - Quick dry, stay soft

A purely synthetic material, microfibre terry has one of the highest liquid retention capacities around. Superfine strands of polyester provide a much increased surface area to attract water molecules. Due to the unique way in which it absorbs, microfibre dries incredibly quickly. It also stays completely soft even after washing in hard water. The resulting nappy greatly reduces energy use in the home by negating the need for tumble-drying.
